{2nd Base}

last night involved a whole lot of this:

the local institute of religion (lovingly dubbed "the institution" for reasons we wont go into) has a dance about once a month for all us good kids who have given up on going out partying on friday nights. its always quite a nice time. last night was no different.

we arrived shortly before 10:00pm and the instant we walked into the gym, we were hit with an overwhelming smell and feeling that gagged the senses. it was like walking into a sauna that had been heated by too many hot sweaty young adult bodies. but we were bound and determined to get down with our bad selfs so we pressed on as far towards the front as was humanly possible. it was only then that we realized the reason behind the enormous amounts of people causing such a ruckus: high. school. babies.

thats right, our dance was invaded by a seriously large amount of little kiddies out way past their bedtimes. they were jumping all over the place and at one point i heard a young man say "hey guys, lets MOSH!" and proceded to run around into eachother for a good five minutes. *sigh* if they only knew what a true mosh pit was. but thats beside the point. there were so many bodies in one small place and not enough room to dance with out feeling a little violated. one roommate even proclaimed she got to 2nd base with more than one dancing fool. but thats a story for a later date.

after a great deal of jumping and runing into eachother and *gasp* body surfing (which was quickly put to a hault with a threat of ending the dance if everyone didnt stay firmly on the ground) a more tamed, lovey dovey song came blaring over the speakers. and sea was parted because heaven forbid any little boy under the age of 17 touches a girl. it was then that i found myself dancing in the arms of a tall handsome young man by the name of Daniel (i think). he wanted to know all sorts of things about me. such as if i liked the activity before the dance (we never go to the activities before the dance. theyre lame) and which institute activity i liked best (repeat, we dont go to the activities) and most importantly, if i liked the dance and if i was having a good time (of course and of course). it was only after we had parted our ways and that a girl in the ward came up to me and said "OMG! YOU JUST DANCE WITH THE INSTITUTE COUNCEL PRESIDENT!" for realsies? no wonder he wanted to know my whole institute life story. but was the OMG! really necessary? probably not, since she didnt really say it, i just made it up for effect. and she didnt really yell it like youre thinking, she just had to talk louder than normal because of the loud music and the even louder screaming little girls.

and then it was back to dancing like crazy goons. there was the footloose breakdown and the dance off with a certain young man in the ward who has a hip gyrating problem. (of course i won, must you ask?) and dont forget the rad-to-the-max move i learned just that afternoon from two very cool roommates. and then more slow dancing with a handsome devil who got kicked in the leg midway through the dance and fell to the floor in agony while i just stood there not knowing what to do. lets not forget the soul searching moment with one young man while the JoBros serenated us in the background (i only later found out he told one roommate she was the most delicate person he had ever seen, and the other roommate that she was SO beautiful when she turned her head to the side. so much for our soul searching moment). of course it ended with a bang, nothing says institute dance like a techno remix of cotton eyed joe.

seriously. institute dances are where its at.

ahhhhh, i miss those days.

not.

but I kind of do. our institute group was really fun. It was a bunch of older master's students who weren't really interested in dating, but just hanging out inbetween study sessions. very non-committal, but nice so we all could focus on school.
have fun, and as your mom says,
"don't drink" i assume that means the punch.
